Ahh, the spotlight page.
Currently a 20 year old college student from California, I would describe myself as a curious and mercurial person. In the past I have let my inability to stand by my work prevent me from displaying it for the world to see, but am now getting to the point where I can be proud of my words.
I believe life is about dynamic experiences, rather than common routines. An example of this would be my aversion of “temp jobs” that require you to become a robot, repeating the same tasks over and over. I feel one of the best ways to bring about dynamic experiences in my life is personal improvement. Many people, including myself, have spent so much time in trying to fabricate lives to impress the rest of the world, that we’ve allowed the reality of our lives to slip away. Personal development is something I’m fond of, because it’s about facing and overcoming your greatest fear: the truth of your life.
What do I value? Real social interaction, work I can be proud of, and money. That’s right, I said money. As a college student, I don’t particularly have much of it, and there are simply bills and dreams that need to be funded. Openly valuing money has quickly become a negative quality in people, but I believe that there is no harm in desiring money if your intentions and methods of acquiring it are focused toward creating value in the world, rather than leeching it from others.
And while I do highly appreciate money, real social interaction is something that any amount of money simply cannot substitute. Money quickly loses its worth if you have no one to share it with, or for some people if you have no one to show it off to. Real social interaction is about forming meaningful relationships, even with people you don’t know. Some of the friends you’ll make here will be more genuine than the “friends” you see daily.
Finally, work I can be proud of. Like many, I have continually felt a lack of purpose in my life. What are the experiences and events I can look back upon and truly feel fulfilled about? How about reaching out to and linking thousands or possibly even millions of people together, in an effort to form a sharing community?
These values are the premise of www.sliceofmind.com. It is all about forming profound relationships with people and creating work I can be proud of. Money would be a nice by-product of all of this, and while it is important, the first two are the aspects I really hope to develop.
